The new DJI Phantom 3 Professional and Phantom 3 Advanced have arrived! Please Subscribe to stay up-to-date on all Phantom 3 News. Updated FAQ below. Update: DJI released the phantom 3 battery and the famous hard shell backpack for order. get your hands on the phantom 3 battery here and it is compatible with both the phantom 3 professional and the p3 advanced. The hard shell backpack is available here and of course fits both drones as well. Other Phantom 3 Accessories are available on this page. Items such as replacement parts, or the new UV Filter are available there. The new Phantom 3 is called the Phantom 3 Professional and the Phantom 3 Advanced. The only difference between the two is the camera and the charge rate on the battery chargers. The Professional Charger is rated at 100W and the Advanced at 57W. (Update: The Advanced charger will charge the Phantom 3 battery in 96min and the Pro charger in 60min). The Professional features a 4K camera capable of 30FPS at 4K and the Advanced is capable of up to 2.7K (with recently released firmware update). I know it’s crazy that we can say “only” to 1080P but these are the days of Ultra High Definition Video. Philip Bloom tweeted that it’s the same camera as used on the Inspire 1. DJI claims that the cameras are free of distortion and offer Fisheye-less Videos and Photos. This is either done through software or the lenses of the cameras just aren’t as curved as the older Vision+ or the popular camera lens on the GoPro series of cameras. This is due to the Lens itself as the Phantom 3 cameras both on the Pro and the Advanced version feature a 94 degree field-of-view. More details will of course come to light in the coming days. Another interesting point is the new higher voltage battery, with 720mAh less capacity DJI is claiming similar flight times as the Phantom 2. This is also due to more efficient motors, ESC’s and the higher voltage battery. To view our own Unboxing please check out our Phantom 3 Professional Unboxing page. The first phantom 3’s have arived in customers hands in Signapore. Here is the first unboxing video:

Important Questions and other FAQ: (Please note answers to these questions are from various sources which this early in the release could still contain false information. The linked answers are to posts on forums by DJI beta-testers, or other claimed DJI staff, i have no reason not to believe them, however they can also only pass the information they personally experience or receive from DJI HQ)
- Will a Phantom 2 Battery fit in the new Phantom 3? No it is a new battery higher voltage, 4cells instead of 3cells
- Will the Phantom 3 be larger than the Phantom 2 (DJI website used to claim 69cm prop tip to prop tip)? No, it’s the same size as Phantom 2. Website got corrected.
- Can you charge the Phantom 3 battery using a Pro charger at the slower 57w charge rate? According to DJI Support the Professional charger will let you choose which charge rate you want to use. (100w charge rate = 60min charge time, 57w charge rate 96min charge time)
- When will/does the Phantom 3 Professional or Phantom 3 Advanced ship? Various Sources claim a shipping date of starting April 22nd from China using FedEx 3-5Day Shipments. If everything goes to plan the first Phantom 3’s will arrive on April 27th-29th. During pre-orders DJI does mention that the non-extra Battery editions will ship out sooner than the ones with extra battery, and that orders will be shipped in the order they were received. It is unknown if the Phantoms will be shipped first in case of the extra battery order and then the battery sent later when available or if both will be held until the claimed “mid-may” Update: DJI Support now states April 25th (a saturday) for shipment dates. The “starting on” statement still applies. Update 2: A FB Group User is showing his Order Status as shipped. He lives in the UK. We’re expecting more of these shipment notifications to be popping up over the next few hours/days. He ordered straight from DJI. Update 3: Customers are receiving their Phantom 3’s both the Professional and the Advanced.
- Does the Phantom 3 Professional come with a DJI Backpack? No, initially this was rumored to be the case but now the word is no.
- Will the Phantom 3 allow for radius limits in the P3 Assistant Software? Yes
- Is there an HDMI port on the Phantom 3 Remote Control/Tx ? Not at this time, rumors point to an adapter hitting the market soon
- Can you bind a second Phantom 3 Remote Control to have a second person control the Camera Tilt? No (but), because the Phantom 3 remotes do not have the 5.8gHz link to enable this slave mode. However at the NAB show it was successfully tested to bind an Inspire 1 remote to the Phantom 3. The only question why spend the $600 on a spare Inspire 1 remote just to have someone else guide the camera angle. I’d look towards 3rd party SDK Developments to allow this from another tablet, or just having the 2nd person control the angle on the device plugged into the primary remote control.
- What is the best tablet to use with the Phantom 3 Pro or Advanced? From the Apple camp this appears to be the iPad mini 2 or 3 (3 has same internals as 2 except for the fingerprint sensor). From the Android corner we hear the Nvidia Shield mentioned a lot.
- Does the Phantom 3 geotag it’s photos? Yes
- Does the Phantom 3 use the E310 tuned power system? Yes
- When will extra batteries be available to purchase for the Phantom 3? Mid May according to DJI Support Chat
- Where can i see videos recorded by a Phantom 3? Here
- Does the Phantom 3 camera lens have threading on it for add on filters such as ND filters? As this photo shows (from RcGroups DJI Betatester) there is threading, not sure when and who will create the first ND filters.
Do you have questions about the new Phantom 3? Let us know in the comments below. Update 8: Livestream now was available here (Livestream has concluded) Update 7: First leaked images appear of the new DJI Phantom 3. A Day before DJI’s live event we’ve come across the first leaked images which are plausible enough to be of the new DJI Phantom 3 vision. Based on the following images we can deduce that:
- The new Phantom 3 Vision will utilize a form of DJI’s Lightbridge to transmit for the first time digital video
- It will be interesting to see what sort of camera if any would be compatible with this digital transmission standard for the normal non-Vision Phantom 3
- It also appears to have DJI’s new Vision Positioning System (featured in the Phantoms bigger brother the Inspire 1) which allows a specially designed camera in addition to sensors and a CPU which combine visual data and sonic waves to determine the quadcopters or drones position even when GPS signals are not available. This helps people who fly indoors or in other areas without good GPS signal reception.
- The Phantom 3 is claimed to be a bit larger than the previous Phantom 2, meaning slightly larger body, arms and propellers.
- A 4S battery replaces the current 3S. Our best guess is that the battery will feature at least a 6000 mAh capacity if not larger. It makes sense to increase the capacity of the battery to allow extra current draw for features such as digital video transmission and additional sensors and chips for the new Vision Positioning System, however we’re not sure of the increased size.
- The legs of the quad are spaced wider and a little taller. This takes care of those pesky situations where the legs of its predecessor constantly got into footage taken by its camera.
- The plastic covers for the LED’s have shrunken a little, perhaps two LED’s instead of three.
Note the two larger black circles and one smaller hole between the battery and the gimbal with camera on this second photo. This is the new Vision Positioning System. The Transmitter or Remote Control in the second picture most likely will be the Remote for the Phantom 3, note however the Inspire 1 body in the background just above the wristwatch on the gentlemans arm. Image Credit sb-dji.com Update 6: DJI posts Teaser video titled “Evolve Again”. The Teaser video shows patterns as if aerial video were seen through a kaleidoscope with following text:
Without creativity there is no evolution, only patterns, but from those patterns… come the urgency for change. It’s time to evolve again.

View our DJI Inspire 1 T600 page here Update 3: DJI releases new Phantom 2 Bundle and makes individual Parts available. Click here to see all the Details UPDATE 2: In perhaps an unrelated bit of news it looks like DJI is getting ready to release an upgraded version of the DJI Phantom 2, with many parts seeing an upgrade. I’m fairly certain this is not the Phantom 3 with the 6S battery, but you never know, DJI may be strategically leaking info to peak interest. View our DJI Phantom 2 Upgrade post UPDATE: Looks like a working version of the App on iOS was also seen in the wild on this iPhone 6: A Portuguese Blog posted that it had received/found some leaked specs of the supposed DJI Phantom 3 Triumph with screenshots of what looks like an Android Tablet App. It appears to be a Vision+ style model since it comes with a camera. This could be the Phantom 3! (taken from one of the screenshots) The specs:
- Smart Battery 6S (Phantom 2 uses 3S or 3 cells)
- Camera capable of recording 4K video with 3 axis Gimbal
- integrated HD FPV using DJI’s Lightbridge technology)
- Waypoints integrated into App
- The quadcopter will record flights using Flightlogs

Phantom 3
Can you take photos at the same time as recording video.
Any news on accessories, carry case, backpack, spare blades, etc. ?
April 22, 2015
Hi Brian,
Thanks for your comment. With the current pre-production firmware which is the only firmware we’re receiving info about it currently is not possible to take photos and video at the same time. News on accessories i’m expecting to hear about by mid may.

What’s involved in changing from mode 1 to mode 2 control?
May 8, 2015
Hi Allan thanks for your comment. The mode can be changed in the DJI Pilot App under Settings (i just tap the battery or mode icon at the top to get the settings to show) > Remote Control (icon) > Stick Mode > Then Mode 2.

Well, that’s gonna be a very interesting FIGHT between the Phantom 3 and the new 3DR solo drone!
May 8, 2015
Yea let’s see what the Solo can do once it actually hits the market :). But competition is good for everyone, keeps companies pushing forward.

Can you adjust the flight “Distance” from the default 30 ft in beginners mode? I adjusted it up to 60 ft but it still goes only 30 ft though it retains the 60 ft setting?
June 22, 2015
Hi Brent, thanks for your question. In order to increase the distance past the 30ft you need to disable beginner mode. If you feel comfortable in beginner mode the next step is to turn it off and set it like you wanted to at say 60ft. Just take it nice and slow :) Enjoy your Phantom 3!
June 22, 2015
Thank you Kindly for verifying that question, kind of figured that was the case, Thanks again!

I’m using an Apple iPhone 6 now on my controller. If i buy an iPad do i have to have Wifi and Pay for another Phone Line? I also noticed that my video is a little jerky. What should i do to correct that? Dan
August 15, 2015
Thanks for your questions Dan. If you upgrade to an iPad you won’t need a new phone line. If you get a wifi only tablet you can load the maps at home while you are on wifi, or just hotspot your iphone so the iPad connects to it at the beginning of the flight to access data for the map download. For the jerky video i’d recommend checking that your framerate is high enough and the memory card used is fast enough.

I just received my phantom vision 3 professional the first flight was great I had no trouble downloading videos but I could not download or see still pictures any advice. it just said could not access card for photos. Thanks for help
September 3, 2015
Hi Les, thanks for your question. The surefire way I access my images and videos after flying: After fully shutting down the phantom 3 and waiting a few seconds (to let the buffer empty to the memory card just in case), I take out the microSD card from the drone itself and pop it into a high-speed USB3 compatible microSD card reader such as this one. From there any computer will see all files on the card. This could be .JPEG & .DNG for photo files or .MOV & .MP4 files for videos.
The item linked above is a 64gb microSD card that comes with the high-speed USB3 card reader. I wanted a larger capacity card than the card that comes with the phantom 3 and not having to worry about the card getting full all the time is nice. 4K and 1080P video takes up a ton of space.
